This independent survey was carried out among 500 CIOs, CTOs, IT directors and heads of IT of global businesses based in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. The research was conducted in March 2021 by Vanson Bourne, a specialist research-based technology marketing consultancy offering clients analysis and advice based on incisive and rigorous research into their market environment.

In conjunction with this report, Gautham Gnanajothi, the Global Research Director and Head of Best Practices for Energy and Environment at Frost & Sullivan, interviewed Sean Baillie, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Connectivity Strategy for QTS Realty Trust.
Gnanajothi: Sean, what key trends will have an impact on the colocation services market over the next two to three years?
Baillie: First, our perspective is based on the fact that we serve all verticals -- hyperscale, government, and enterprise. The major trend we are seeing is noticeable growth in space and power requirements per engagement that are expanding average deal size in all three segments.
Taking on any new initiative within a large company is a tough road, but particularly for a publicly traded one. Three years ago, the CEO and board of directors of QTS debated and then agreed to take on the challenge of sustainability and they asked me to lead the initiative to ensure its success. No pressure, right?
Three years later, and many milestones reached, we have achieved sustainability leadership in the data center industry. This is evidenced by numerous awards including the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) report ranking QTS #1 among data centers globally for our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
